Shorter and Longer Ways
11m x 7m x 1.7m
Plastic, Acrylic Tube, Wire
A series of tubes suspended above large piles of logs, densely overgrown with moss, fungus and leaves. Creatures live there.
Each tube forms a shortcut - a tunnel, a bridge - to its destination.
The alternative paths to the same destinations are extraordinarily long, filled with challenge, darkness and potential danger.
Tiny figures stand near the entrances to each bridge, looking in, undecided.
Installation in Contemporary Art Museum With Nature exhibition, Saitama, Japan.
23rd September - 10th October, 2011
In the exhibition, outdoor sculptural installations occupied positions within the natural landscape - hanging from trees, nestled in a bamboo grove, emerging from the ground and so on.
